Annual Winter Hiking

In 2013, during the craziness that was the Christmas season, Colin and I decided to take a spontaneous hiking trip in the Wichita Mountains.  This year we decided “why not make it a tradition?”  So on the Saturday after Christmas, we made plans to go hiking all day.  I woke up that morning to Colin saying “Mary, look out the window!” and thick snow falling in our backyard when I looked through the blinds.  Those are the best mornings.

We enjoyed our coffee at home, then we packed our lunches, got bundled up, grabbed our cameras, and headed down to the Wichitas.  It wasn’t quite as snowy there as it was at home, but it was still wintery and magical.  Especially when the sun came out as we reached the top of Elk Mountain!

We’re going back to the Wichitas soon, and I can’t wait!  It’s fun to have such a lovely place so close to home.

Where’s your favorite local spot to escape?

His Truly,

Mary O.
