Happy Wednesday, everyone!
I’m excited to show you part one of our photos from our recent road trip to Madison and Chicago! If you follow me on Instagram, you saw the few that I posted a few photos while we were gone, but today you’ll get the whole spread…of the first day at least :)
On our way to Madison, we were really excited to stop through one of our favorites, Kansas City, MO. We only had time for lunch and coffee, but we made the most of it thanks to some suggestions given to us by Brian’s friend who lives in KC!
We ate lunch at The Westside Local –a farm-to-table bundle of delicious joy. I got the Kale Salad with Salmon, and the Vegan Tomato Fennel Soup. Both were amazing! Also, the restaurant was really cool on the inside, I was just too hungry to take photos haha
Our other stop in KC was Quay Coffee –which brought back every lovely memory I have of Kansas City coffee shops. It was cozy but urban, and the coffee was high quality, and made with care. I got an americano with some of their homemade vanilla bean syrup (I like sweet coffee in the afternoons), and it was perfect. Also, KC has had this really amazing rainy day light going on every time I’ve been there…I totally love it.
As I said in my phone dump post about our trip, we didn’t actually make it there until about 3:45am. Yikes.
We were extra excited to get brunch because of our lack of sleep, because we needed all the nourishment (and coffee) we could get. Our friends, Sean and Kristen (who live in Madison), took us to Marigold Kitchen–a fun and artistic farm-to-table spot that easily ties with our deep dish pizza as my favorite place we ate on this trip! I always love when bottomless coffee is involved, and I especially appreciate it when the bottomless coffee is really good quality coffee. That was definitely the case with Marigold, who serve Colectivo coffee. The food was top notch as well. Colin got pancakes with peaches on top, and I got the Barley Saute with Marigold Potatoes. My mouth waters every time I look at the above photos. Seriously, if you ever find yourself in Madison, have a meal at Marigold!
The main reason why we took this trip was so I could take some engagement photos of Sean and Kristen (their wedding is in September)! So after brunch, we walked around downtown Madison, exploring and taking photos.
Those above 2 photos are from Michaelangelo’s Coffee House–so cool!
Aren’t Sean and Kristen just adorable? I’ll share more of their engagement photos here when I finish them.
Later that day, Blake and Danielle flew in, so we explored a little more. We ended up sitting outside the student union at The University of Wisconsin. Uhhhh, I really loved going to OSU, but it’s safe to say that our student union was definitely not this cool.
(have you heard of this publication? ^^ Kristen had it, and I love it!)
Whatever, they win, ok? Ok.
Anyway, that evening we enjoyed spending time at Sean and Kristen’s apartment while they cooked dinner for us (thanks again, guys!), then we enjoyed our dinner out on the patio.
After dinner, we walked to their favorite local pub…which is about a block away from their apartment! Also, notice everyone carrying sweaters…it was cold that night! Cold! I need to move north.
Sean has a cocktail named after him at Free House, the Sean Scissortail. Love!
And that was the end of day one in Madison! More to come next week :) Thanks for stopping by!
