Happy Thursday, everyone!
As my dear friends, Blake and Brian (both are featured in this post) would be saying “it’s practically the weekend!” They typically use this phrase on Thursday evenings when their best friend, my husband, says he’s too tired to stay up any later because he has to work in the morning. This statement always makes us laugh, because the fact that the weekend is close doesn’t really change anything for Colin. As an engineer, he doesn’t get to have a “slacker” day just because it’s Friday (though the fact that Friday is doughnut day usually makes it more fun). Regardless, Blake and Brian have whined about Colin going to sleep early on Thursday nights with this reasoning since around February of this year.
I hope you get to do something fun today though! To inspire you and get your fun-gears turning, I’ve kicked off today with my first ever “Throw Back Thursday” or #TBT. I know, I know–I should have gotten on the #TBT train awhile ago. Here I am starting it though, so don’t be too hard on me!
I think it’s safe to say Autumn has arrived in my little corner of the world (aka Oklahoma City). This means cooler weather, especially at night! This is the beginning of my favorite part of the year. If it were up to me it would never get hotter than 80 degrees, and that would only be for 2 days so I could go swimming. I love cold weather!
There’s just about nothing better than camping when it’s chilly at night.* You get to wake up in the morning and cuddle by a fire and make oatmeal and drink coffee. Everything is still quiet until the forest world starts to wake up too, gradually. You’re breath hovers in the air before floating away…magic.
This particular camping trip happened in Robbers’ Cave State Park in Southeastern Oklahoma. We like to call it the “Colorado” part of Oklahoma. The past two years we’ve packed up our lives (“man-palace” and all) and headed out to this beautiful part of our state to enjoy nature for a few days. Two years in a row is long enough to start a tradition (right?), so I think it’s safe to say we’ll be going back often!
Alright, I’ve talked enough–here’s Robbers’ Cave:
^we usually refer to Brian as the “egg master”
That’s the “man-palace,” a three room, 10 person tent that is bigger than you’d ever need for camping unless you were the Brady Bunch.
In case you were wondering, in the above photo-cluster starting at the top left and moving clockwise is Blake, Brian, and Colin.
I hope this post inspired you to plan an awesome trip! If you’re in Oklahoma, I would absolutely recommend a trip to Robbers’ Cave if you’ve never been. If you have, you know how great it is! Anyway, happy Thursday again–I hope it’s great! If you need me, I’ll be here wishing I was camping. Colin has to work tomorrow though, so that probably won’t happen.
*By this, I mean that there’s nothing better than camping when it’s chilly at night IF AND ONLY IF you have the proper gear to keep you warm! There is almost nothing more miserable than sleeping outside in cold weather with nothing more than a regular blanket and regular clothes. This one time, Blake insisted that we all sleep outside in the freezing cold unprepared and, well *shudder* it was not fun….
